Vestibular Neuritis

Vestibular Neuritis is a condition that causes inflammation of the inner ear. It usually occurs following a viral infection. Symptoms include sudden severe vertigo, dizziness, balance difficulties, feeling unsteady, a swaying sensation, and sometimes changes in vision and hearing. Vestibular rehabilitation exercises can help to reduce symptoms and re-train the brain in interpreting messages from the inner ear. While it is often more comfortable for the patient to sit or lie still, it is recommended that they keep moving. Vestibular rehabilitation exercises should be completed daily for as long as is recommended by the health professional. A balance rehabilitation program will focus on the legs, the eyes and the whole body with the aim of re-training the brain to adjust to different movements.
